Motorola and Sentivision to Provide Set-Tops for Japanese IPTV Rollout
Oregan enables Sentivision's programmable DaVinci DSP-based devices, targeting next wave of IPTV Set Top Box deployments
2006-04-26
London, UK, 26 April, 2006 – Oregan Networks, a media browser company, has licensed its IPTV client software to a Japanese-based Set Top Box vendor Sentivision. Sentivision will deliver complete turnkey products to telecommunications service operators in Western Europe and US.
Oregan provides Sentivision with a set of silicon- and OS-independent software building blocks for enabling a complete network entertainment experience: XHTML internet browsing, including the recently launched native rendering of Macromedia® Flash® 7.0 content, as well as broadband television and plug-and-play home network media sharing.
The flagship product of the Oregan-Sentivision collaboration, the SV-300 IP Set Top Box, is powered by Texas Instruments’ DaVinciTM - an advanced video and graphics DSP technology, enabling H.264 VC1 and WMV9 encode / decode capabilities.
Mark G Perry, Oregan’s Chief Executive Officer said ‘Oregan is pleased to be working with Sentivision - an expert in programmable DSP-based CPE solutions, providing advanced end user functionalities as well as industry-leading media decode standards. The development of the IPTV industry has suffered severe delays caused by deficiency of robust devices, capable of delivering H.264 and VC1 video streams – a momentous link in creating ecosystems for scalable distribution of broadband entertainment. We are confident that working with Sentivision will yield rapid and impressive results for telecommunication services wishing to deploy a triple-play strategy in a cost-effective manner.’
Yoichi Akase, Sentivision’s Chief Executive Officer said ‘We believe that Oregan’s solution will enable us to resolve many end-user related issues, such as poor user interface responsiveness, slow switch between applications and limited interactivity. We value the open architecture that lends itself to easy integration with HTML and Flash UI based middleware, such as Orca, Minerva and Tandberg, as well as the multiple functionality of the solution, which manages broadband delivery and sharing of digital media in a highly compressed footprint’.
